Frequently Asked Questions

What does IBCLC stand for?

International Board-Certified Lactation Consultant. This means we have spent 90 hours of lactation specific education, completed 500-1000 mentored clinical hours, and passed an international board exam.  IBCLCs have the most extensive scope of practice in the lactation world.

How and when do I pay?

If you are in network with any of our covered insurances, you will not pay anything out of pocket unless your insurance reports part of the visit is the patient’s responsibility.  At that time, the card on file will be charged. Cash pay clients will pay at time of booking.  If the client requests to have insurance filed for a $15 dollar fee, any amount insurance pays will be refunded to the client.

What if my insurance isn't listed as covered?

If your insurance is not listed as covered, we will have you pay upfront. We can then provide you with a superbill that you can submit to insurance for them to pay you. We can file with out of network insurance for you at an additional $15 fee.

Can you fix all my issues in one visit?

While we would love to be able to fix everything in one visit, lactation issues can be complex.  You should expect 2-3 visits for mild issues. More complex issues may take 5-6 appointments before things are headed in the right direction. Some clients need help for the first 2-3 months. Taking our prenatal classes, having a prenatal consult, and seeking help sooner rather than later are all steps you can take to possibly help avoid paying more once baby is here.

Can you help me if I am bottle feeding?

Absolutely!  We can help with any feeding method.  If you are pumping and bottle feeding, we have taken a lot of education to help with flange sizing, maximizing milk production, and helping baby’s oral function while bottle feeding. We can also help with safe formula preparation instructions.>

Cancellation Policy

We understand that emergencies happen.  However, we must reserve a 90-minute spot in our schedule to see you, reserve childcare, etc.  You must notify us as soon as possible of any need to reschedule.  Appointments cancelled less than 24 hours in advance will be subject to fee if covered under insurance and clients will not be refunded. There is no guarantee we will be able to see you within 24-48 hours of first appointment.

What to expect during your visit.

Each private consultation takes about 90 minutes. During this time:
  • Baby’s suck is evaluated for strength and range of motion
  • Breast/chest feeding positions and latch are assessed.  Assessment of lactating parent
  • Baby is weighed before and after the feeding to see how much breastmilk was transferred
  • Parents’ questions are answered
  • Lactating parent and baby are given a customized Plan of Care
  • Lactating parent and baby are given additional resources and referrals, if necessary
